SECRET PLANET // GITKIN
TICKETS
An intoxicating gumbo of global soul, surf noir, and psychedelic funk — all filtered through a vintage analog haze. Listening to Gitkin feels like stumbling across a forgotten reel-to-reel in a dusty Havana pawn shop or a smoky Marseilles speakeasy. There’s a deep sense of wanderlust baked into every groove — part spaghetti western, part funk exotica — with twangy guitars that slither like snakes through a desert bazaar.
New Orleans-based Gitkin, also known as Brian J Gitkin, is a Grammy-nominated artist and producer renowned for his work with Cedric Burnside, Bab L’ Bluz, Bernard Purdie, and Cyril Neville, and as the mastermind behind the internationally beloved funk ensemble Pimps Of Joytime. What began as a passion project has grown into a global phenomenon. With monthly streams surpassing 300,000, Gitkin’s self-produced studio albums have resonated deeply across continents.
In 2022, fueled by mounting streaming momentum and international demand, he assembled a live touring trio featuring Palestinian multi-instrumentalist Simon Moushabeck (keys, accordion, percussion) and Cuban-American drummer Washington Duke. Together, the three create a spacious yet explosive live dynamic — weaving hypnotic grooves, desert-tinged melodies, and deep rhythmic interplay into something both transportive and visceral. Since forming, the trio has toured extensively across the United States, Germany, the U.K., the Netherlands, France, and Austria, selling out multiple headline shows and supporting acts such as Steel Pulse, Say She She, The Altons, and Thee Sinseers.
After years of crafting vocal-driven productions, Gitkin embraced the freedom of letting the guitar speak. “With Gitkin, I bring my love for African, Middle Eastern, and South American music into dialogue with American blues and funk,” he explains. “Performing as a trio leaves space for what I call ‘expensive moments’ — those times when something intangible takes over the room and everyone feels it.”
JOHNNY MULLENAX W/ MA’AM
TICKETS
Johnny Mullenax, a Tulsa native, grew up in a musical family and started playing guitar at age 5.
In his teens, he followed his family to the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, Kansas. In typical Johnny fashion, he showed up with just a guitar and ended up sleeping in a stand-up bass case.
At 18, he used a friend’s ID to get into a club, where he became part of a live hip hop band backing rappers.
According to Johnny, “Life is too short to play one style of music, and if you have an opportunity to try something different, then you should give it a shot.”
Claiming wide-ranging influences from AC/DC and The Ramones to John Coltrane and Parliament, Johnny calls his genre-bending sound a funky country bluegrass good time!
Official Claire (Chicago) w/ Weird Dream
TICKETS
Official Claire is one of her generation's finest songwriters. The Chicago Reader praised her combination of “sensitivity and straight talk.” Former Wilco member LeRoy Bach says, “Official Claire is my favorite new songwriter. Her songs possess deep wit, and mischief, and all those swaying hooks!” Her live band includes Bach, as well as Brooks Palmer and drummer Quin Kirchner.
Claire is also a calm shredder of guitar. The Singleman Affair called her a “stunning bliss/drone sorceress.” On her most recent release, Midnight Dickbiter, Claire played and engineered the majority of instruments. The beautiful collection maintains a celebration amid darkness, and generosity amid the mundane.
Claire grew up in the Chicagoland area, where she’s played the main stage at the Old Town School’s acclaimed Square Roots festival, and a Lollapalooza after-party with Slow Pulp. She’s currently en route to perform at Wilco’s curated Solid Sound Festival and is also featured at this year’s Chicago standout festival, Sound and Gravity.
Support from State College’s Weird Dream — poetic soundscapes that somehow turn into catchy, strange songs. Revealing and restrained in the best way.
SECRET PLANET // THEE MARLOES (Indonesia) w/ Elijah Snyder
TICKETS
Thee Marloes are a rising soul trio from Surabaya, Indonesia, bringing a fresh global perspective to classic soul music. At first listen their sound may feel familiar—warm crooning guitar, deep-pocket drums, and heartfelt vocals about love and longing—but what sets them apart is the place and spirit it comes from. Soul music from Indonesia is rare, and Thee Marloes have carved out their own lane.
The band features vocalist and keyboardist Natassya Sianturi, guitarist Sinatrya “Raka” Dharaka, and drummer Tommy Satwick. Drawing inspiration from classic soul, American hip-hop, rocksteady, and lovers rock reggae, the trio developed their sound organically through late-night songwriting sessions and local gigs across Southeast Asia. The group truly came into focus when Raka and Tommy discovered Natassya’s powerful voice at a local performance—her church-trained vocals and wide musical influences adding emotional depth to the project.
Recording in their home studio, the trio crafted a raw and authentic soul sound that eventually caught the attention of Big Crown Records. Their debut album Perak blends funk-driven grooves, soulful ballads, and Indonesian-language lyrics into a style that feels both timeless and entirely new—proof that great soul music can come from anywhere in the world.
FRED FRITH
Fred Frith is a true pioneer of experimental music. A founding member of the legendary British avant-rock group Henry Cow, Frith has spent decades redefining what the guitar can be—turning it into an orchestra of textures, rhythms, and unexpected sounds. Using objects, prepared strings, looping, and improvisation, he transforms the instrument into something entirely his own.
Across a career spanning more than fifty years, Frith has collaborated with an astonishing range of artists—from Brian Eno and John Zorn to Iva Bittová and Mike Patton—and has composed music for film, dance, and contemporary ensembles around the world. He has also spent years teaching and shaping the next generation of experimental musicians at Mills College.
Secret Planet // Las Guaracheras + Nevaris Project

SET TIMES TBA
As part of @cpartsfestival and the “Arts Fest After Dark” series, Manny’s Live Performance Space welcomes back the unstoppable force that is Las Guaracheras, joined by a special opening set from the Nevaris Project on Saturday, July 11.

The all-female sextet is known for high-energy performances driven by powerful percussion, vibrant horns, and commanding vocals, creating a sound that feels both deeply rooted and fully alive in the moment.
The @nevarisproject sets things in motion with a heavy, groove-forward blend of funk, dub, and Afro-Latin rhythms. Led by Agustín Nevaris, the group features former Fela Kuti drummer Jojo Kuo alongside breakbeat specialist Lockatron, moving between tight rhythmic interplay and expansive textures. Drawing from a catalog that includes the Bill Laswell-produced Reverberations, the set is built to lock in early and carry through the night.
HORSE LORDS w/ Magic Tuber Stringband
TICKETS
Horse Lords were founded in Baltimore, Maryland in 2010; they evolved from the experimental collective Teeth Mountain and began as a trio with drummer Sam Haberman, guitarist Owen Gardner, and bassist Max Eilbacher, soon adding alto saxophonist Andrew Bernstein to the core ensemble. Though Horse Lords grew out of the fertile Baltimore noise and leftfield rock scene, a storied environment for artists and weirdos that has nurtured many an influential outsider band (Lungfish, Matmos), their approach is more omnivorous than the stippled rhythms of instrumental electric rock would indicate.
Across sixteen years of frequent touring, Horse Lords have released ten studio, live, and collaboration albums in addition to a split EP with fellow Baltimoreans Lower Dens, a handful of singles and compilation tracks. For RVNG’s FRKWYS series, the band collaborated with Berlin-based composer Arnold Dreyblatt, a onetime student of La Monte Young and Pauline Oliveros whose just intonation chamber music was a crucial part of the post-Fluxus Downtown New York City environment.
With the relocation of three of the four members to Germany beginning in 2021, the potential for more further creative exploration, and performance opportunities including the Moers Festival (with an 11-piece lineup, interpreting Julius Eastman’s music as well as their own), the interdisciplinary phases of the band’s music was poised for fascinating new directions. The band observes “We are always trying to balance working within the limitations of the quartet and pushing beyond them.
SECRET PLANET // ALASH ENSEMBLE
TICKETS
$25 Advance // $30 Day of Show
Alash is a group of master musicians from Tuva, a republic in southern Siberia, known for their deep knowledge and practice of traditional Tuvan throat singing (khöömei). Their music is rooted in the nomadic culture of the region, where sound is closely tied to the natural world—wind, water, animals, and the vast steppe. Using instruments like the igil (horsehead fiddle) and doshpuluur (two-string lute), Alash creates layered, overtone-rich vocal music that can evoke multiple pitches at once, blending melody, rhythm, and environment into a single voice.
What makes Alash especially compelling is their ability to honor tradition while remaining open and collaborative. They are deeply committed to preserving Tuvan cultural heritage, but also engage with contemporary audiences through thoughtful arrangements and cross-cultural exchange. Whether performing in concert halls, intimate spaces, or alongside musicians from other traditions, their work offers a rare and immersive listening experience—one that connects ancient practices to the present moment in a powerful, resonant way.
SECRET PLANET // L'ECLAIR (Switzerland)
TICKETS
Growing up in Bulgaria in the late 1990s, brothers Stef and Yavor Lilov were shaped in a myriad of unseen ways by the centuries-old folk music that filtered through their daily lives. It helped mold their creative spirit and inspired them to begin making noise together at a young age, and that unique and intuitive creative alchemy has been a foundation of guitarist/keyboardist Stef and drummer Yavor’s band L’Eclair since they formed it in their adopted home of Switzerland a decade ago.
After spending the past two years meticulously crafting Cloud Drifter, their fourth album and debut for revered U.S. label Innovative Leisure, L’Eclair is for the first time now led by the Lilov siblings. The result is an album seamlessly melding modernity with nostalgia and played with a robotic tightness that remains deeply human. Indeed, Cloud Drifter will move the body as much as it does the brain.
“We really wanted to finally be able to capture in the studio the feeling that people had listening to us live,” says Yavor. “Part of that involved really taking the time to polish the music between recording and mixing. Can we make this more impactful? How can we make it more attention-grabbing? Putting in that work and really dissecting the production helped us achieve the sonic result we were looking for.”
L’Eclair has built an international fanbase thanks to its impressive command of rhythm, dynamics and electro/acoustic alchemy, which has nodded equally to vocal-free titans such as Can and Tortoise, expansive, spacey and blissed-out jams ((2021’s Confusions) and more stripped-down, feel-good and genre-jumping destinations (the 2018 debut Polymood). Two live sessions for KEXP have accumulated nearly 900,000 views combined, beaming L’Eclair onto the playlists of adventurous listeners around the world.

Experience their energetic and imaginative approach to Carnatic instrumental music.
SECRET PLANET // SABABA 5
TICKETS
Sababa 5 are a Paris-based band known for their hypnotic blend of Middle Eastern psychedelia, Mediterranean funk, and analog groove. Their sound fuses swirling organs, surf guitars, and irresistible rhythms into a style that feels both nostalgic and forward-looking — rooted in vintage tones, but always evolving.
After gaining global attention with the single “Tokyo Midnight / Nasnusa,” featuring Japanese singer Yurika, the band continued to explore new directions through collaborations and live performances across Europe. Their self-titled debut album and follow-up, Aspan, deepened their signature sound: a rich instrumental fusion of funk, disco, and Eastern melodies.
In recent years, Sababa 5 have expanded their palette through projects with vocalists including Shiran Tzfira, Inbal Nur Dekel, Yurika Hanashima, Canay Doğan, and Sophia Solomon, balancing analog depth with cross-cultural energy.
Known for their captivating live shows, Sababa 5 bring an immersive experience that blends groove, improvisation, and vibrant sonic textures, connecting with audiences across Europe and beyond.
In 2025, they unveiled Nadir, their fourth and most ambitious album to date. Marking a new creative high, Nadir dives deeper into emotion, texture, and groove — the sound of a band unafraid to move forward. This journey continues into early 2026 with the release of their fifth album, Ca Va Ca Va, embracing a celebratory Hafla sound — a Middle Eastern party spirit — fully supported by an extensive European tour.
ELEPHANT STONE (Canada)
TICKETS
At the center of Montreal’s Elephant Stone is Rishi Dhir, a songwriter and sitarist who has spent twenty years blurring the lines between Western psych-pop and Indian classical tradition. What began in 2006 as a quest for transcendental sound has evolved into a singular, self-contained vision. Operating out of his Montreal home studio, Sacred Sound, Dhir has emerged as a true studio auteur—producing, engineering, and mixing the band’s increasingly complex and cinematic output.
While the band’s reputation was built on airtight pop craftsmanship and spiritual exploration, their recent work—anchored by longtime members Miles Dupire, Robbie MacArthur, and Jason Kent—possesses a new, raw intensity. It is a sound forged through Dhir’s deep collaborative history with icons like The Black Angels, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, and Beck, as well as his role in the psych-supergroup MIEN.
With a discography spanning 10 acclaimed releases, Elephant Stone remains at the forefront of the modern movement, constantly deconstructing the past to find something visceral, haunting, and undeniably human in the present.

Alex Harding & Lucian Ban Duo
Doors 7PM
DJ Josh Ferko 7PM // Alex and Lucian 7:30ish
Detroit born baritone saxophonist ALEX HARDING, and Transylvanian expat and New York City based pianist LUCIAN BAN have been at the forefront of contemporary jazz for more than two decades, collaborating and founding several groups together, releasing a handful of diverse albums for American and European labels, performing countless concerts and tours in US and Europe all the while documenting an amazing body of music.
With DARK BLUE (out on Sunnyside Records)the two musicians are celebrating their musical brotherhood with a unique amalgamation of original pieces and improvisations informed by traditions of jazz, blues, and European chamber music. From avant blues to spontaneous improv pieces, from original pieces to ballads that channel Sun Ra (Alex is a frequent collaborator with the famed Arkestra) , DARK BLUE represents a stunning document of two artists at their maturity, two old friends conversing in the language of modern jazz. As legendary tuba player Howard Johnson writes in the liner notes for the album: “Lucian and Alex have been honing their duo craft for some years. Now they have become one voice when they want to and still manage to complement each other”
From their 2001 debut duet “Somethin’ Holy“ to the 2006 “Tuba Project” and the 2024BLUTOPIA album featuring legendary Bob Stewart, from Alex’s 2006 “The Calling” quartet album featuring Nasheet Waits to the 2008 “Romanian - American Jazz Suite” album co-lead with soprano sax master Sam Newsome, the musical partnership between Mr Harding and Lucian Ban knows no boundaries. In 2003 their co-lead ensemble Lumination featuring drum legend Barry Altschul was voted “BEST SHOW OF THE YEAR” by All About Jazz Magazine in New York among concerts by Cecil Taylor, Joe Lovano and others. Their releases have been constantly praised by jazz writers throughout the years.

SHOW: 7:30pm / DOORS: 7:00pm
TICKETS: GA $22 ADV/ $25 DOS Students :$12 ADV/ $15 DOS
Maurice Louca's Fera in quartet live formation brings the album’s intricate, hypnotic energy to the stage with Maurice Louca on guitar and electronics, Ayman Asfour on violin, Dylan Greene on drums and percussion, and Luke Stewart on double bass, delivering the full rhythmic and dynamic range of Fera in a powerful live setting.
Maurice Louca (Lekhfa, Dwarfs of East Agouza) is one of the most gifted, prolific, and adventurous figures in Egypt’s thriving experimental arts scene. His genre-defying music bridges psychedelic Egyptian shaabi, cosmic jazz, and improvisation. In his latest project Fera, hypnotic polyrhythms take the forefront for a trance-inducing experience that invites both movement and careful listening.
SECRET PLANET // Bab L'Bluz (Morocco)
Bab L’ Bluz (literally “The Door of the Blues”) is a Franco-Moroccan band formed in Marrakech in 2018, born from the meeting of Moroccan singer and guitarist Yousra Mansour and French guitarist and producer Brice Bottin. United by a deep passion for Gnawa music, the two began learning the guembri together, forging a singular musical language that became the foundation of the band’s early repertoire.
Armed with electric guembris, Bab L’ Bluz blends Gnawa trance rhythms, Hassani songs from southern Morocco, and Chaâbi polyrhythms, pushing their sound into the realms of psychedelic rock and hypnotic, expansive sonic landscapes. Led by a woman from Doukkala, the group embodies a bold shift in attitude and expression, aligning with Morocco’s Nayda movement—a new wave of artists drawing from local heritage while singing messages of freedom in Darija, the Moroccan-Arabic dialect.
Since their formation, the power quartet has toured extensively around the globe, delivering hypnotic riffs and a mystical, liberating energy that has become the band’s hallmark. Poetic, powerful, and boundary-transcending, Bab L’ Bluz continues to build an ever-expanding sonic universe.
In 2020, the band made a striking entrance with their debut album Nayda!, which was named among Mojo’s Top 10 World Albums of the Year and Songlines Best Albums of 2020, and praised by outlets including The New York Times, Vogue Arabia, BBC, Le Monde, Financial Times, Pan African Music, Uncut, Radio Nova, and Arte Concert.
In 2021, Bab L’ Bluz won their first Songlines Music Award and embarked on a world tour that continues to this day. Over the years, they have performed across Europe, Africa, the Americas, Oceania, and Asia, bringing their hypnotic and liberating sound to audiences worldwide.
After years of near-constant touring, the band released their second album Swaken in May 2024 to widespread critical acclaim. Its eleven tracks pulse with kinetic energy, carrying listeners on a journey that shakes, heals, and inspires.
Today, Bab L’ Bluz continues to evolve, captivating audiences across the globe with a sound that is psychedelic, hypnotic, and deeply rooted in Moroccan tradition.

Takaat ( Of Mdou Moctar) w/ Monsoon & The Sunday Love Club
TAKAAT began (and still operate) as the rhythm section to Mdou Moctar, the breakout Nigerien rock band named for its charismatic frontman. This puts Ahmoudou Madassane (guitar/vocals), bassist Mikey Coltun (the sole American in the group), and drummer Souleymane Ibrahim in the same realm as Calexico. That indie band started out as part of alt-country weirdos Giant Sand, but TAKAAT aren’t seeking to branch out from or expand the sound of their parent outfit. They might have more in common with one of Bob Weir’s non-Dead outfits. Like Weir, Madassane has had to invent his own method of playing rhythm guitar to accommodate a brilliant, dynamic leader–and when that leader’s not in the picture, there’s a lot of space left to fill.
On their debut EP, Is Noise, Vol.1, the trio finds plenty of unusual sounds to plug that void while also sticking to familiar ground. Opener “Amidin” (as with Mdou Moctar, all song titles and lyrics are in Tamashek) thunders ahead with the hard-charging, asymmetrical gallop that drives many Mdou Moctar burners. Madassane sings in the chantlike, circular style of other Tuareg bands such as Etran De L’Air and Tinariwen; it’s melodic but unvarying. Unaccompanied, his vocals could be a funeral lament or a rapturous prayer. Backed by TAKAAAT’s ecstatic yet precise rhythms and percussive heft, they become something both guttural and spiritual, equally meditative and feral.
Hiroe w/ Amplifiers, Tartarus, Ozmium
Ozmium 7:30 // Amplifiers 8:15 // Hiroe 9:15 // Tartarus 10:15
Hiroe (pronounced Hero-way) erupted as a seismic force in American post-rock in 2020, emerging from the Philadelphia underground at the height of the pandemic. Celebrated as “the new darlings of American post-rock,” the band has quickly carved out a commanding presence, becoming one of the genre’s most compelling new voices.
Blending the ethereal and the crushing — pairing the sweeping melodicism of Radiohead and Interpol with the visceral weight of Deftones and Isis — Hiroe crafts a striking instrumental rock-metal hybrid that continues to attract a rapidly expanding and fiercely loyal fanbase.
Signed to Pelagic Records — renowned for championing genre visionaries like Mono, God Is an Astronaut, and The Ocean — the band has released two critically acclaimed records, Wrought and Wield, earning widespread accolades from heavy-music authorities including Metal Hammer, Metal Injection, and Metal Sucks.
Following landmark performances at events such as Post Fest, the band now stands at the threshold of its most ambitious year yet, fueled by new music, 2026 festival appearances, and continued touring in support of Wield.
