**POSTPONED**BIG LAZY (NYC) (AS HEARD ON THIS AMERICAN LIFE) w/ Andy Tolins

~~Postponed due to weather-Stay Tuned for new date!

Big Lazy has flourished for over two decades in New York’s downtown music scene, playing their singular brand of noir and twang from iconic NYC clubs - Tonic, The Knitting Factory, Barbès to theThe Museum of Modern Art.

Simultaneously gothic and modern, noir and pastoral, Big Lazy’s music conjures images from big sky country to seedy back rooms with deftness and a cinematic clarity. With sparse instrumentation (Stephen Ulrich - guitar, Yuval Lion - drums, Andrew Hall - bass) the trio forges a new American music from archetypes in Rock, Jazz and the Avant Garde.

Big Lazy founder Stephen Ulrich is the composer for the HBO series Bored to Deathand the art forgery documentary Art and Craft. In 2021 he was commissioned to compose 30 pieces for the iconic radio program This American Life. In 2023 Barbes Records released Ulrich’s solo album Music from This American Life.

"Big Lazy, the elegantly gritty instrumental trio led by the extraordinary guitarist Stephen Ulrich, plays stunningly beautiful music that evokes everything from truckers' romps to the haunting film scores of Bernard Herrmann."  The New Yorker

State College–based musician Andy Tolins has been entertaining local audiences for over three decades. For many years, he maintained weekly residencies at Zeno’s Pub, performing every Friday with The Triple A Blues Band and every Wednesday with his bluegrass group Haystack Lighting—traditions that continued regularly until the 2020 pandemic, with both bands still performing monthly at Zeno’s today. A longtime member of the classic rock band The Screaming Ducks, Tolins contributed lead and backing vocals as well as lead and rhythm guitar. In addition to performing, he is a dedicated guitar instructor and lifelong student of the instrument, always continuing his musical journey. Andy can be found performing throughout Central Pennsylvania with a wide range of collaborators, and music from Andy Tolins and Haystack Lighting, along with performances by The Triple A Blues Band and other projects, is available on YouTube and other streaming platforms.
