BEGGAR WEEDS + THE CADETS
Late Show Door // 8:30PM
Beggar Weeds emerged from Jacksonville’s late-’80s underground, opening for X, the Meat Puppets and the Dead Milkmen and recording with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe. Decades later, the trio has returned with Tragedy in U.S. History, connecting scrappy Southern underground rock, punk and the roots of ’90s alt-country. MOJO called them “a rambunctious little trio” with a “downhome Creedence-like sense of place.”
The Cadets formed out of Jacksonville’s all-ages underground in the mid-’90s, sparked by a chance meeting around a Man or Astroman? show at the legendary Einstein A Go Go. Their nervous, angular guitar pop mixes frenetic rhythms, melodic hooks, sci-fi weirdness and sonic experimentation. Across three full-length records, multiple EPs and tours throughout the East Coast and Japan, their lineup has included Chad Matheny of Emperor X. Now reunited, The Cadets are back at full strength and pushing their peculiar, high-energy sound into new territory.
